When a patient’s prescription is out of refills or no longer fillable, your pharmacy can request a renewal directly in OttoRx instead of faxing or calling. You review each request and send a renewed prescription from the portal.

Where to find renewal requests

Renewal requests appear in several places:
The sidebar and page use Script renewals; the notification bell uses Refill requests for the same workflow.

Review a pending renewal

1

Open the request

Go to Renewals or click a request in the notification bell. Each row shows the patient, medication, source Rx reference, and any note from the pharmacy.
2

Decline or renew

Click Decline to reject the request (you can add a reason), or Review & renew to open the prescription builder with the cart prefilled from the original order.
3

Complete checkout

The builder opens in Review renewal mode with the patient and line items already loaded. Adjust strength, quantity, refills, and directions as needed, then send the renewed prescription to the pharmacy.

Request statuses

Closed requests appear under Recent responses on the Renewals page.

What the pharmacy sees

After you send a renewed prescription, the pharmacy sees the new order in their queue and can link it to the original renewal request. If you decline, the pharmacy is notified and can follow up by phone or message.
